The First Aid at Work (FAW) Refresher Course is designed for individuals who already hold a valid First Aid at Work qualification and need to renew their certification while refreshing their practical first aid skills and knowledge.
Delivered in person by qualified instructors, this 2-day course updates candidates on current first aid procedures, reinforces safe and effective emergency response techniques, and ensures continued compliance with Health & Safety Executive (HSE) guidance.
Upon successful completion, candidates will receive a renewed First Aid at Work certificate, enabling employers to maintain compliant workplace first aid provision.
This course is held in our Training Centre in Linwood, near Paisley.
Prerequisites
This course is intended for previously qualified first aiders. Candidates should:
- Hold a valid or recently expired First Aid at Work certificate
- Be physically capable of carrying out practical first aid procedures, including floor-level CPR
- Have a basic understanding of English for safety and assessment purposes
- Have access to an email address
What's Involved

- Control of bleeding and shock management
- Treatment of common workplace injuries and illnesses
- Fractures, sprains, and soft tissue injuries
- Burns and scalds treatment
- Seizures, stroke, heart attack, and diabetic emergencies
- Asthma and allergic reaction management
- Incident recording and accident reporting procedures
- Updates to current first aid guidance and best practice
Course Structure
- 2-day practical, in-person refresher training course
- Tutor-led instruction with practical demonstrations and exercises
- Hands-on CPR and casualty management refresher training
- Scenario-based learning to reinforce confidence and competence
- Training delivered in line with HSE and current first aid guidelines
Assessment
To successfully complete the course, candidates will be assessed through:
Practical Assessments
- Demonstration of CPR, casualty management, recovery position, bleeding control, and other first aid procedures
Theory Assessment
- Assessment of candidate knowledge and understanding of first aid principles and workplace responsibilities
Ongoing Observation
- Continuous assessment of practical skills, participation, and understanding throughout the course
All assessments are conducted in line with recognised first aid training standards.
