The Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) Course is designed for individuals who require basic first aid training to respond to workplace emergencies safely and effectively.
Delivered in person by qualified instructors, this 1-day course provides candidates with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations in the workplace in line with current Health & Safety Executive (HSE) guidance.
Upon successful completion, candidates will receive a recognised Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, enabling employers to meet their legal obligations for workplace first aid provision.
This course is held in our Training Centre in Linwood, near Paisley.
Prerequisites
This course has minimal entry requirements. However, candidates should:
- Be of school leaving age
- Be physically capable of carrying out practical first aid procedures, including floor-level CPR
- Have a basic understanding of English for safety and assessment purposes
- Have access to an email address
What's Involved
This course combines theoretical learning with practical first aid exercises to help candidates respond confidently during emergency situations.
Core Training Areas
- Understanding the role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Assessing an emergency situation safely
- Managing an unresponsive casualty
- Recovery position procedures
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Choking recognition and treatment
- Control of bleeding and shock management
- Treatment of minor injuries
- Recording incidents and accident reporting procedures
Course Structure
- 1-day practical, in-person training course
- Tutor-led instruction with practical demonstrations and exercises
- Hands-on CPR and emergency response training
- Scenario-based learning to build confidence and competence
- Training delivered in line with HSE and current first aid guidelines
Assessment
To successfully complete the course, candidates will be assessed through:
Practical Assessment
- Demonstration of CPR, recovery position, choking response, and other emergency first aid techniques
Ongoing Observation
- Continuous assessment of practical skills, participation, and understanding throughout the course
All assessments are conducted in line with recognised first aid training standards.
